COGNITIVE NEUROPHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY

Unveiling the Secrets of Cognition through Neurophysiology

Welcome

The Cognitive Neurophysiology Lab (CNL) studies the link between the brain and the mind using data from intracranial recordings as patients perform cognitive tasks and subsequently consolidate their memories during sleep. Intracranial neurophysiology allows us to monitor patients’ thoughts, memories, emotions down to the single neuron level using specialized electrodes. The lab also researches neuromodulation of memory—specifically the use of entorhinal and frontal cortex stimulation to ameliorate memory dysfunction. In collaboration with neuroengineering colleagues at UCLA we aim to develop memory aids for the ‘cognitive tsunami’ of an aging population of millions with memory impairments.
